As much as I love the talented and lovely Kristin Wiig, when I look at her outfit from the 2012 Writers Guild Awards all I hear are sad trombones: “wah, wah, wah, waaaaaaah”. She wore a red strapless jumpsuit from the Pre-Fall 2012 collection by Valentino. I may be a bit biased because I’m no fan of the jumpsuit, but this look makes her look like as wilted as the rose detail on her chest.
It looks like it’s in peril of just drooping off her. Also, her necklace just serves as an arrow as to which direction her jumpsuit is headed. It doesn’t fit her well, and her posture definitely isn’t helping any (I know too well the consequences of bad posture). To add on top of that, her hair and makeup aren’t at their best and just add to the weighed-down-by-gravity look. She’s probably just tired after all these award appearances.
One thing I do like about the jumpsuit is the rich bold color. Kristen seemed to be sticking to neutrals for a while, which always deducts points from the “wow” factor. At the 2012 Screen Actors Guild Awards she wore a relative of the beige, and received a lot of flak from style sites for her unusual choice of a heaver choker. It also detracted attention from her perfectly nice gown.
So far, I think Kristen’s best look of 2012 was the lovely white, strapless, draped and gathered silk Alberta Ferretti dress she wore to 2012 Orange British Academy Film Awards. It’s understated, yet sleek and chic, and her hair and makeup couldn’t have looked better.
As a fan, I hope 2012 is the year of Kristen Wiig, when she finally becomes a coveted star on the big screen to showcase her immense comedic talent.
